Mt. Shasta, California, January 23, 2012 — I like to share useful things. It’s my nature.
And a few days ago, I wrote up a useful report and made it available for free to folks visiting my new super-budget, get-opn-the-web-fast-and-easy service called WebNova.Net. It’s an opt-in thing, you get the report for free, and in actual fact people also get a follow-up email briefing course about how to boost income using a simple one-page “business card” type of website.
[If you’d like a copy of the special report, “Nine Free Ways to Get More Customers,” just click on the title I just gave, OK?]
I sent out notices to people who were already on my list as being interested in health, and growth, and small business.
Uh-Oh. A Problem. Too commercial!
I got an email from a wonderful woman who runs a local community mailing list and publishes a local-events magazine, called Mt. Shasta Magazine. In it, she reminded me that the purpose of that mailing list is meant to share local events, so a personal event is cool, and even an event if you run a business that does events, and personal stuff like need a ride to Ashland or lost my dog or look out for the Republicans … all these are cool. But promoting some other kind of business … not so much. 🙂
She very kindly pointed out that I was off-target, and that she’d had (one or more) complaints.
And is this a problem?
Well, it needs fixing, according to how I see it. But actually, I am *grateful* for the information. Here’s why …
The Universe Tells You What to Do
That is … if you’ll listen.
In this case, it was sooo useful to know that there was a complaint, because that’s a handy signal direct from the universe giving useful feedback about what works and what doesn’t work.
Because my mission is help people, by sharing the skillsets from a long and active life, and apparently what people most appreciate within my skillsets are (a) how to make a living doing something they’re driven to do; and (b) humor with insight.
Living the Business of Life
My life is a seamless experience, and my own business work, the assistance I give to others (paid), the help I can give to others (unpaid), and my fun time with Susan and our dogs … it’s all woven together.
I am a (somewhat prolific) writer, and one of the very best ways for me to help others is to write up something … something that other people mostly just don’t know … like, for example, the aforementioned 17-page document “Nine Free Ways to Get More Customers.”
Of course, the document and its information — unknown and unconsidered to most — is of considerable value to the many people in the local community (Mt. Shasta) who are struggling to eke out a living doing something they love, or something with a high purpose.
I’m willing to share this, and my articles and information are generally rather good. (Not much modesty; sorry.)
Sharing Good Things
So I want to share it. Naturally, I’m also efficient, and so providing it to our friends here in the local community, at the same time as to other people all across the nation — and with the ability to follow up (automatically) with another complete mini-course (called Seven Secrets to Increase Your Income with a One-Page Website) — this is how I can be helpful in such a way that everyone wins, as best I can see.
Yes, anybody traveling there will learn that I’ve created a super-affordable built-for-you solution to the increasingly-important *problem* of being invisible unless you’re online. That benefits my new $99 website business (WebNova.Net), of course. And it benefits anyone who knows they should get online, but haven’t the time or money to get it done easily.
Of course to get and use the report’s information, they don’t have to buy anything, and in fact I also fully reveal how people who have the time and inclination can do things for themselves. (Like my Amazon book with free videos: Marketing Online, Clear and Simple, for Local Business.)
Where is the Dividing Line?
I don’t see a clear line, not in my life. There’s not much division between life, helping others, and supporting myself and those I love.
I absolutely will adjust my communications, for I wish my communications to be accepted.
And this tunes me in better, to see it more clearly from the point of the local folks who may be more sensitive to commercialism. (As those who know me well will agree, I talk about anything somewhat like a radio commercial; a bit too much enthusiasm for some. Oopsy.)
If I err with *you*, please forgive me. If I start sounding too brassy, let me know, for I *do* appreciate when you tell me what’s what.
Love and Bliss in Your Life,
— Arthur Cronos
