Mount Shasta, August 31, 2019 – Today on Facebook, someone was railing against low-carb, animal-based diets.
But you know, my current way of eating — low-carb, moderate protein, with lotto lotto veggies … it’s working for me, better than anything I’ve ever seen. I stuff myself every day, and I’m dropping excess weight, but before going into that …
In fairness, I gotta say I see a lot of extreme variants of “low carb” approaches, and my guess is some are not optimum. I settled on the formula that Dr. Joseph Mercola espouses in his “Fat for Fuel” book. (See it on Amazon here.)
So, yeah, I eat “low carb,” usually no more than 40 grams a day. For example today brekkie was an egg and a beef hot dog and some cheese and a half-cup of sauerkraut. Sounds odd but actually delicious (I make my own sauerkraut, much better than stuff in cans or jars from the store). So there’s almost no carbs in that.
Today for lunch, Susan and I are getting tacos at Pancho’s here in Mount Shasta, so the two corn tortillas (less fiber) will be about 26 grams of carb.
Tonight will be a veggie meal, perhaps a couple artichokes with mayo, perhaps a big-old salad with Paul Neuman dressing.
So the day will have about 40 grams of carbs total (from the veggies).
I also try to keep protein moderate, because excess is correlated with several immune disorders (the mTor pathway). For me at 145 lbs lean body weight, moderate protein means about 55-60 grams protein. The breakfast and the lunch will come close to hitting that.
Twice a day I have psyllium seed and water, which adds a lot of insoluble fiber. I exercise each day for 15 minutes using X3 Bar resistance bands.
And I’m stuffing myself with delicious food every day, dropping a couple pounds every month (or more), feeling lots more energy, sleeping better.
So to the fellow who was railing against what he’d seen of “low carb” approaches … I hear what you say, and I understand your words … but my body tells me a different story. 🙂
